Advocacy

Victim Advocacy

Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking need to know their rights and not only what services are offered within our community, but also what will be expected. The steps through the system can be overwhelming. Advocates assess each victim’s needs and offer appropriate referrals to community resources. Advocates can assist victims when accessing other state and federal victim programs including victim notification, victim’s compensation, confidential address program, legal assistance, and  Hope Card, among other services.

Legal Advocacy

Advocates provide legal and court advocacy to victims, including restraining order, parenting plan, and dissolution assistance. Advocates accompany victims as they go through the judicial system during interviews, preliminaries, trials, and other court hearings, including during and after the decision of the judge or jury.
Advocates do not represent the victim legally, but act as a support person. Advocates provide emotional support and understanding within a sometimes confusing legal system.

Safe Housing

Safe Housing can be an option for individuals fleeing domestic violence or who are experiencing homelessness as a direct result of domestic violence. The shelter is a combination of a safe home and supportive services provided in the context of a respectful and flexible relationship. The ultimate result is a feeling that victims have the ability to get back on their feet, while breaking the cycle of violence for themselves and their children. The Women's Resource Center is one of few Montana shelters that allows pets.
